Navigating the dining hall!!

Now that I have been at college for almost a year, I feel pretty confident in knowing how to wisely choose my foods.
When you first step in to your dining hall, I bet you'll probably be in shock by the amount of food there is. There's a huge variety to choose from. You've got your pizzas, classic burgers and fries, some ethic food, and the coolest thing you'll ever see: the salad and fruit bar ( props to you if you saw what I did there). When I first moved into the residence halls, I didn't know how to pick through all these foods... THERE WAS TOO MANY OPTIONS. Let's not even bring up the desserts...
So what I always start with is a great bowl of green greatness, my awesome salad. I make sure that I head straight there. I start with some spring mix with baby spinach. Then I add my toppings: cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, and if I feel a little crazy some wonton strips. I drizzle jsut a little bit of olive oil for some healthy fats. OH and the mushrooms. Can't forget about those awesome little guys. I usually like to add to my salad as well. Yey now I got my first plate down so let's continue and look at what else our dining hall is serving.
I make sure I get any of the steamed veggies that are serving and if I'm lucky they'll have quinoa or cous-cous which I always load up on. For protein I'll usually have the grilled chicken/fish/vegetarian option or beans.
So that is pretty much my way of surviving the many temptations in the dining hall. My school usually posts the menu so I can choose and pick where I want to eat that serves the best food. Personally I try to stick to this menu when I eat at school because the veggies help me stay focused and keep my mind clear. Hopefully this helps any of you!
    Have a greaaaat day! :))
